In 1985 parents of children with cancer in the Tucson area began a much dreamed of camp for families to promote helpful camaraderie and to support each other during the diagnosis and treatment of their children with cancer. The needs of the families became very evident, especially for siblings and fathers to meet in a less formal setting. From this camp grew a 2nd camp and a network of people to help in many areas during a crisis, from delivering meals to helping pay for utility costs, visiting newly diagnosed families in the hospital, providing holiday gift wishes, creating the annual candlelighting in front of the hospital, a prom for teens with cancer thus many programs have sprung throughout the years.
Our goals are to link child to child, parent to parent, family to family and group to group.
Ease frustration and fears through shared emotions and experiences.
Exchange information on research, treatment and community resources.
Break down the social isolation of families.
Provide guidance in coping with childhood cancer's effect on a child, parents siblings and family.
Identify patient and family needs so that medical and social systems respond adequately.
We are an emotional support system of second families.
