It's a real ZOO! - Mary Ellen McKnight

 

Summary:

The medical facility at Kay's Kamp is lovingly called the ZOO. Our medical program allows for a nurse to accompany each cabin each day. This presentation will cover how we get volunteers; physicians, nurses, pharmacist. How we keep our volunteers, handle malpractice insurance and keep growing as a medical team.

Key Objectives:

Strategies to obtain volunteer medical staff, creative ways to schedule, describe a path to attain medical equipment and supplies, and Ideas of how to gain malpractice insurance coverage from local hospitals.

Bio:   Mary Ellen McKnight is an RN from Bear Delaware.  She earned her BSN from Immaculata University and is currently pursuing her MSN.  As any nurse, she wears many hats.  She works full time for Compassionate Care Hospice and part time for AI DuPont Hospital for Children.  She is also an adjunct faculty member of Delaware Technical and Community College.  She holds nursing certification in oncology , hospice and palliative care and prior certification in legal nurse consulting.  She is the Medical Coordination Director for Kay’s Kamp ~ Delaware’s only camp for kids with cancer.   Her favorite job however is  being a  Mom to her two daughters Sarah and Grace, who still reside at home.
